Christmas 1995

Wednesday, 12-20-95 to Friday, 12-29-95

During our stay in Wichita, we parked the motorhome in the driveway of my brother-in-law’s home. To get around town we used a rental car and used our motorhome like a local residence, used mainly for sleeping quarters.

While in Wichita, I think the highest temperature we saw was in the high 30’s. We got snowed on twice during our stay. It was nice to have a white Christmas. Our son flew in on the Saturday before Christmas. It was his first Christmas in Wichita. We had a very nice time with all of our relatives, including Pete. He is the dog Kay and her brother got for their parents when we were here last Spring. Kay’s brother and his family always make us feel right at home. We have visited them often enough, that when I step into their house, I feel like I’m home.

One of the things we did during our visit, was to take a trip to the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson Kansas. It is a very impressive place to visit. The Cosmosphere is the second largest space museum in the United States (Second only to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum). They also have the largest display of Russian space stuff outside of Russia. There is an actual LunaKhod moonrover on display. It looks like it would make a good sidekick for the robots in "Star Wars". When we were there, a new building was being built around a real SR-71 Blackbird spy plane. The Cosmosphere is going to be getting the actual Apollo 13 command module and a full size space shuttle replica. I’m really looking forward to future visits.
