Day 6

This morning Jim and Donna came to our motorhome to pick us up to take a drive to Topeka. We took off shortly before 11 o;clock and found our way, via a nice Kansas State Highway, to the Kansas Turnpike in El Dorado. Our planned destination was an Indian casino north of Topeka. Jim and Donna have gone there in the past and had been given two complimentary rooms in the casino hotel.

The ride began in bright overcast weather with a bit of a breeze and already the air was warm. However, as the car was rolling along the turnpike, the sky was getting darker as we drove north. Shortly after noon it was decided to stop in Emporia to get something for lunch.

When we were back on the road, rain drops began to appear on the windshield. By the time we reached the north side of Topeka rain was pouring down and big bolts of lightening were flashing to the right of us. We had a spectacular show in the sky as we approached the casino. It was great.

The hotel-casino is owned by the "Prairie Band of Potawatomi Nation." The building is an impressive structure that uses large wooden beams and natural stone in the construction.

The afternoon was spent in the casino paying for our "complimentary" room. The slot machine credits increased, then they decreased, then they went up again. You know the end result, the slots kept all the money we put into them in an amount that was about equal to the price of a room in this hotel. But hey, we were having fun.

I went up to our room a little early and was presented with a great display of thunderstorm weather outside my room window. I had to leave to go to dinner in the buffet.

The storm was blowing outside my hotel room

I ended the day watching a beautiful sunset in the west, then turning around and looking at the dark clouds of a thunderstorm in the east. For me it was a fun way to end the day.
