Day 4

This was the first day to sign up for classes and seminars. The women went into the Information Center to sign up for craft classes. I didn't sign up for any classes; I planned to drop into a couple of seminars. Two of the guys in our group attended morning exercise classes. I should have joined the exercise class, but I just didn't seem to be able to get up and around early enough each morning.

My first thing to do was to go to the vendors' service center. I wanted to have a few things to get serviced such as an intermittent furnace. Fortunately it had been warm enough that we haven't needed the heat. However, I wanted to get the heater serviced so we could rely on it to provide heat when we need it.

When I reached the vendors service center I found a very long line waiting for the center to open. My service needs were not urgent, so I figured I would go look around the fairgrounds for a while before trying to get into the service center.

There was a sign that really stood out, it simply said, "PORK BUTTS". The sign was on the side of a big smoker with columns of smoke rising from two stacks. I'm guessing that the vendor had been asked about the sign. A couple of days later a sign showed up that explained the meaning of "pork butt". I didn't know what it meant at first because this was the first time I had seen the term pork butt and I thought it was just another name for a ham.

It isn't what I expected — good meat used to make delicious sandwiches

I was frequently reminded of the rainy weather we had experienced on our way to the Fairplex. Even though we didn't get any significant precipitation during our stay at the convention, we were often on the edge of stormy weather. Our motorhomes could be in sunshine while a dark storm cloud moved along the mountains nearby.

We seemed to always be on the edge of a rain shower

After looking over the familiar layout of the Fairplex, I returned to our motorhome. Later we enjoyed a quiet late afternoon and evening at home. Kay was knitting and listening to music on her MP3 player while I read a magazine and worked with my computer.
