A Day in Camp The day began early with the sun rising over the horizon to the left-front of our motorhomes. It was nice to have a parking place that was clear ahead of us allowing our group to have an unobstructed view of the high-desert scenery. Some people in our group wanted to sign-up for classes. Unfortunately, because our group came into the fairgrounds on Monday the last day of entry many of the classes had been filled while we were on the road heading to the convention. I went into the fairgrounds to look around. The place was very familiar as we had been here three years before when we purchased our Monaco motorhome. The "Frustrated Maestros" were doing their thing as they did almost every morning. They are a large group of musicians and singers that perform a wide variety of songs. They seem to really enjoy entertaining people at every FMCA convention I've attended. I returned to camp to find that Tom's motorhome had a Cummins service truck parked nearby. Upon closer examination I saw that the Cummins mechanic was inside Tom's rig repairing the problem Tom had on his trip to Oregon. Tom was overseeing the work being done. Having just about every form of motorhome service available is one of the nice things about attending the FMCA conventions. After taking a couple of photos of Tom's motorhome being serviced, it was time for lunch. It was nice to have a nice view of the landscape around us in front of our motorhome while eating my mid-day meal. The women were in the fairgrounds and I had nothing planned for the remainder of the afternoon. So I went for a short walk around the camping area. As I walked among our group's motorhomes, it occurred to me that this was the largest gathering of motorhomes from our RV club to attend an FMCA convention together. There were five motorhomes together with one down the road and another across the way in the electric hookup area making a total of seven. This convention had a new twist new to me anyway with the main entertainment time having been changed from 7:30PM to 5:30PM. It seemed that there were a lot of complaints in the past that said the 7:30 time meant that the entertainment was over at too late an hour. I found that the new 5:30 time means that the show begins about the time I would be eating dinner. I guess you can't satisfy everybody. In the late afternoon, we headed to the Event Center riding on a tram, one of the two forms of transportation provided by the fairgrounds. Once at the center, we met with others from our group. Most were able to sit together in one area while a couple of people, in our group, arrived late and were sitting a few rows behind us.
After listening to members of the FMCA leadership speak and local politicians welcome the FMCA convention attendees, the main entertainment began. On this night we enjoyed some old-fashioned entertainment in the form of a trio of guys doing a tribute to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. The name of the tribute is, "Frank, Sammy and Dean Here and Now." The show brought forth a lot of memories. After enjoying the show, our group exited the Event Center into bright, early evening sunshine. It seemed strange for it to still be daylight after the show. In the past it would be very dark outside after the entertainment. Now it would be time for a late dinner back at the camp. With our motorhomes being located on the edge of the camping area, we had plenty of room to spread out with our chairs and tables. This is where many in our group had their evening meal followed by visiting about the activities of the day. As night fell, a small, electric lantern was brought out and placed on one of the tables. As people talked, the new source of light began to attract insects. After a while, there was a small cloud of bugs swirling around the lantern. Some of the occupants of the cloud of flying critters were also attracted to the drink in Tina's glass. In a very short time, the surface of the remaining contents of the glass was covered with drowned insects; not a pleasant sight.
Most in our group turned in early so they would be ready to take on the next day bright and early.
