Today was supposed to be a day we were to get on the road early. Yeah! Right! By the time we were both up and around it was about 9:00 at which time Donna stopped by to see us off. We still had to go to the grocery store, dump the holding tank and fill the gas tank. It was 11:30 before we finally found our way to the Interstate to head south to Oklahoma City.

As I drove down I-235 we could see the mobilehome park that had been hit by a tornado last May. There are a lot of new mobilehomes as well as many empty pads. The pond next the park looks as if it has been dredged to remove the debris of destroyed mobilehomes.

All the way to Oklahoma City I drove against a headwind on I-35 which became a crosswind when we turned west on I-40. Our motorhome was buffeted by the wind all the way to Texas where the wind subsided for a short time. It returned by the time we arrived in New Mexico.

We are passing El Reno, Oklahoma, famous
for being the hometown of my friend Archie

Along the way we saw a semi-trailer loaded with fire hydrants of many colors. Some were all red, while others were red with white tops, all white, yellow or blue. I don't think I've seen so many fire hydrants in one place before.

We were treated to a beautiful sunset as we approached the Texas panhandle. We seem to always see really great sunsets out in the panhandle area. I did my usual trick of trying to take pictures and drive the motorhome.

I drove into the night until we arrived at the KOA in Tucumcari, New Mexico. I drove later than I usually like to, but the weather is unusually warm and the roads are dry. This will not last as a storm is on its way, so I wanted to take advantage of the good weather to try to get out of the way of the storm.
