Salmon Fishing on the Rogue River

Trip Summary

A New Adventure in Oregon

This was our first trip with salmon fishing as the focus. In July I learned that there would be no seventh annual crab fishing trip. Thirty minutes later we were invited to go salmon fishing at about the same time of year that we would have gone crab fishing.

The trip began with an introduction to a couple that we would be traveling with for the first time. Our caravan of four motorhomes traveled north on U.S. Highway 101along the beautiful Pacific Ocean coastal route. We visited a legendary restaurant that I heard about for years. And arrived in one of the most beautiful RV campgrounds I've ever seen.

It was fun to watch the action all around the boat as we trolled and then the thrill of Vince catching a salmon. Then I had the thrill of catching a salmon for the first time. An unexpected surprise waited for me in camp after our second day of fishing; a surprise that resulted in a last minute 80 mile drive — 160 miles round trip.

Then to cap off a really great week, our group took a jet boat ride up the Rogue River. This was an unforgettable experience. During the whole week the weather was next to perfect. When the week came to an end I was really wishing I could stay longer. But the fun didn't end as we traveled south on the reverse route of the previous weekend. Our camping area, on our last night on the road, would be a place I've wanted to visit for years.

As a first time experience, this was an exceptional RV Fun Trip.
